Following the success of "Willie and The Hand Jive" Johnny's only top 10 hit in the US., Otis decided to cover the song "Castin My Spell" by the Johnson Brothers who had used the same Bo Diddley rhythmic structure as Hand Jive. In the spring of 1959 Johnny and Marci recorded their rendition at Capitol Records in Hollywood. The song peaked at 52 on The Billboard Hot 100 Charts and was one of Johnny's only recordings to do so.
